What is Minimalist Interior Design?

Minimalist Interior Design uses bare essentials to produce a plain and tidy space. Stressing simplicity, clean edges, a neutral palette, with only accents of color.

Why create a minimalistic environment?

Uncluttered spaces help to de-clutter the brain and produce a feeling of visual calm and wellbeing. Creating a relaxed and cheerful space is my goal. To make a home feel more spirited you can add personal touches of color with art, plants and pillows.

Here are 5 easy tips for creating a relaxed, minimalist home!

1. Paint Colors

Paint colors for walls include whites, off-whites and soft grays. We are going for a one-color neutral palette with accent colors such as layers of gray or layers of sand and beige. A combination of taupe and beige is a wonderful way to soothe a white minimalist room. Warmer, earthy colors added can bring a feeling of comfort. Try to bring the colors of the landscape you see outside into the room in order to connect the two.

2. Minimalist Furniture

A minimalist living room strives to have a feeling of harmony and a visual sense of balance. Minimalist furniture can have different wood tones. The simple, clean lines of this style of furniture is popular, comfortable and flexible for adding your personal style around the room layout.

3. Declutter for Minimalist Design

Choosing one of these ways to declutter can be very helpful to get started on your decluttering journey. Looking around a room and seeing clear spaces and surfaces makes people calm. Everyone can enjoy the open spaces, shapes and touches of color. Minimalizing will take a large amount of time and effort so any tips to make this go faster and easier will be helpful.

Marie Kondo created the popular “KonMari Method”. The basic idea is to go through a group of similar items and ask, “Does this spark joy in my heart?” It aids you in comparing and eliminating any matching objects to reduce clutter.Sunlit living room with fireplace and mid-century furniture

4. Clear Surfaces and Floors

By centering yourself in a calm state and working on one room at a time you can gradually clear surfaces and floors inside your home. The same can be done with outdoor spaces. Remove everything from surfaces except for one or two decorative items. For floors, after only essential furniture is chosen and positioned to your liking, clear the floors by giving things away, throwing them away, or putting them in a place where they are unseen.

5. Bringing Positive Energy Inside

The colors white, blue, brown and taupe, and green can be dependable for bringing positive energy indoors. White can raise your sense of wellbeing and help with the ability to concentrate. Blue is a very soothing color which can relay a feeling of peace and serenity. Brown is also very earthy and can bring a feeling of power and security. Taupe is a very versatile color and will go well with other colors you want to incorporate in your home design. White, along with lively tones of colors brings freshness to your home environment.
