Thoughtful homemade gifts mean the most to Moms!

Here are 5 easy DIY Mother’s Day Gifts to tell them how much you care! Handcrafted Mother’s Day gifts mean that you or your young ones have taken additional time to actually think about mom and really want to let them know how much they mean to you in a loving, personalized way!

I’ve gathered some of the simplest, sweetest and heartfelt crafts you can make with materials you might already have around your home. Searching through your craft supply boxes and containers may reveal supplies you’ve forgotten were stored away and are just waiting to be used!Succulent plants in twine wrapped recycled containers

#1. Succulent Planters for Mom or Grandma

First, a heartfelt thank you to Holly and her fantastic Pink Fortitude blog!  This is a great DIY craft project for converting recyclables into a pretty assortment of earthy succulent planters. You only need clean, small, recyclable containers, twine, decoupage glue, and colorful little succulent plants.

For those of us that do not have the supplies on hand (other than the recyclables, of course) check them out on Amazon:

…and here is a great “how to” from Holly with the specific steps for this charming craft:  DIY Succulent Project Honors Health, Mom, and Mother Earth

#2. A Love Book

What better gift for Mother’s Day than a “Love Book!”   A sweet and very personalized gift that will be cherished by Mom or Grandma for many years to come!

The basic idea:  provide your kids with pieces of white paper (the number of pieces is up to you) and ask them to write the reasons why they LOVE Mom or Grandma…compile them together and the gift is nearly done!  If you would like to review a great tutorial, visit Marina at her blog Mommy Snippets.com to see the step-by-step!

The supplies are simple:

  • Colorful thick card stock
  • White paper
  • Pens, markers or pencils
  • A single hole punch
  • A metal key ring
  • Craft scissors
  • Paint supplies (if desired)

Having each “love message” laminated is completely up to you…the sentiments will last longer laminated!  Plus, who can argue with the need to own a laminating machine…be careful…when you think about it, EVERY printed thing can be laminated!  Scotch makes a great inexpensive thermal, two roll laminator…check out the price on Amazon!

Deep gratitude to Marina and MommySnippets.com for this great Love Book idea!  A gift made for any occasion!

#3. Tissue Paper Flower Bouquet

What’s better than real flowers? Homemade tissue paper flowers made with love and imagination! Each one an original work of art. And they don’t wither! A cherished keepsake especially for Mom or Grandma. You could even write sweet notes or draw colorful hearts on paper wrapped around the flower stems and glue the paper together.  Fun and fast for kids to make!

These flowers are extremely forgiving and easy to create (especially if you follow the great instructions from Monika Bee from her Life With Lovebugs.com site)!

To get you started, check out the price on Amazon for a great assortment of various tissue paper colors!

#4. Lavender Pouches

Mom will adore your loving handiwork forever!  Imagine with every relaxing and calming lavender fragrance you and your loved ones will be the first thought!

An easy to make (and long lasting) craft…with a huge thank you to Kenarry.com for the great idea and the easy to follow directions!

Your supplies:

  • a needle and thread (or sewing machine)
  • Two 4” x 4” squares of fabric (cotton and linen work best)
  • Scissors
  • ¼ cup dried lavender
  • ½ cup uncooked rice
  • Lavender essential oil (optional)

…and if you would prefer to use colorful embroidered women’s handkerchiefs (instead of patterned fabric), check out these really cute examples on Amazon!

#5. Gluten-Free Flower Pot Cupcakes

If your Mom or Grandma loves gluten-free cake AND enjoys flowers, this is the gift for you and yours to give!  First, simply buy your favorite gluten-free cake mix (for me, it is Simply Mills chocolate or vanilla), bake your traditional cup cakes, cover them with frosting (again, Simply Mills Frosting for me) and place them in small terra cotta pots (found at your nearest Lawn and Garden Center or a pack of six here on Amazon).

Decorate the cupcakes and pots however you wish.  Our photo (courtesy of 30 Seconds.com) uses strawberries trimmed to look like flowers!  Read Cheryl Leahey’s great and easy “how to” here!

Wishing you happy, and oh so crafty gift-making sessions and parties!

Mom deserves so much handmade love!

All the very best,
Cindy
